How it works

Turn on proctoring.
That's the entire setup.

When you create an exam, toggle proctoring on. Students are forced into full-screen mode when they start. If they switch tabs, minimize the browser, or try to copy-paste, MegaExams logs the violation. Set a violation limit and the exam auto-submits when the student exceeds it.

What you get

Cheating prevention without the complexity

Tab-switch Detection

Every time a student switches away from the exam tab - to Google, WhatsApp, or another browser tab - it's logged. You see exactly how many times each student left the exam.

Full-screen Enforcement

Students must be in full-screen mode to take the exam. If they exit full-screen, it counts as a violation. This prevents them from keeping notes or other apps visible alongside the exam.

Auto-submit on Violations

Set a maximum number of violations (e.g., 3 tab switches). When a student exceeds the limit, their exam is automatically submitted with whatever answers they've completed so far.

Simple but effective

Everything you need to keep exams fair

Copy-paste Blocking

Right-click and copy-paste are disabled during the exam. Students can't copy questions to search for answers or paste content from external sources.

Violation Log

See a detailed log of every violation for every student - when it happened, what type (tab switch, full-screen exit), and how many total. Evidence you can review after the exam.

Configurable Limits

Set your own violation limit. Strict exam? 1 violation and auto-submit. Practice test? Allow 5 violations with warnings. You control the strictness level.

Student Warnings

Students see a warning when they violate - "You have 2 violations remaining." This gives honest students a chance to correct accidental tab switches.

No Software Install

Proctoring works entirely in the browser. Students don't need to download any app, extension, or software. Just open the exam link and start.

Violation Report

After the exam, download a violation report showing which students had violations, how many, and what type. Use this to decide if any results need manual review.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

No. MegaExams uses browser-based proctoring - tab-switch detection, full-screen enforcement, and copy-paste blocking. No webcam, no microphone, no special software needed. Students just open the exam link in their browser.
It's logged as a violation. The student sees a warning showing how many violations they have remaining. If they exceed the violation limit you set, their exam is automatically submitted with whatever answers they've completed.
Yes, which is why there's a configurable limit. Set it to 3 or 5 to give students room for accidental tab switches. Each violation shows a clear warning so students know to stay on the exam page.
Basic proctoring works best on desktop/laptop browsers where full-screen mode is properly supported. On mobile, tab-switch detection still works but full-screen enforcement has limited support depending on the device and browser.
Yes. Tab-switch detection, full-screen enforcement, and copy-paste blocking are included free, like everything else on the platform.
